So, I just finished this historical fiction and Ruta Sepetys came to my local library but I was not able to go and see her. Which made me very sad, but I still loved her book and now I am reading her other books: Out of the Easy and Between the Shades of Grey.

THE COVER!

So the cover in the picture is the one I have. I love the cover, I think it is beautiful and matches the story very well. The spine is gorgeous and when you take the dust jacket off, the book is a creamy white and has an engraved bird. The book's overall appearence is just magnifcent!

An introduction to Ruta Sepety:

Book Trailer:

Ruta Sepety talks about her book:

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In 1945, World War II is coming to an end and refugees are running from the soviet union by boarding the German ship the Weilheim Gustloff. This book follow the point of view of 4 Characters: FLORIAN, EMILIA, ALFRED, and JOANA, all the characters hide dark secrets. JOANA is a Luthianian nurse hunted by guilt. EMILIA is a young Polish girl hunted by shame. ALFRED is a commited German salior hunted by fear. FLORIAN is a East Prussian young man hunted by fate. I don't want to go into a lot of detail because I believe that going into this book with out much detail is the best.

MY THOUGHTS:

I seriously loved this book. Historical fiction is definitely not my favorite genre, but reading this book took my breath away. At the very beginning of the book I really disliked the writing style of the book, but I continued reading it and by page 50, I fell madly in love. The tragic history and haunting stories of the characters is heartbreaking. The writing was beautiful and Ruta Sepetys does an AMAZING job of adding mysterious elements and leaving you wanting more. I'm going to say what no book nerd should say and say THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE BOOK EVER!!!!

RATING: 5/5
